Dental plaster is a great material for making tile tools or pitch laps. It is stronger than plaster of paris and it will not dissolve when it gets wet. This eliminates the need to water seal the disk. We often apply a very thin layer of epoxy just to fill and holes left from air pockets when casting the disk. This is much simpler with dental plaster because of the hard and smooth surface it produces. Just squeegee a thin layer using a piece of poster board (e.g. cereal box)
Each sum of plaster will make a disk the same diameter of our blanks at full 6:1 ration thickness. Some of our blanks are thinner than this so you might have extra plaster.Mix Ratios:
- 4.25" : 275g plaster & 95 ml cold water
- 6" : 800g plaster & 280 ml cold water
- 8": 1800g plaster & 630 ml water
